Youth Enrichment and Fitness

At the Y, we love to help kids grow and explore through active learning opportunities designed to engage and inspire!  From classes that focus on science, math, cooking, arts & crafts, healthy choices, fitness and more, kids with all sorts of interests can explore and experience in a fun environment!  Our programs engage kids in creative activities that build artistic and academic skills, develop discipline, problem-solving and decision-making skills, and a sense of achievement and self-esteem.

Simmer & Serve: Crockpot Cooking Class (Ages 8-14)

Come experience the magic of science through slow cooking! Join our four-week class, where we’ll explore fun new recipes and create delicious meals together using a crock pot. Each week, we’ll focus on a different slow-cooking technique and prepare a fantastic dish. Best of all, you’ll get to taste what we make in class, and you’ll also prepare meals to take home and enjoy with your family!

Participants will need to bring a regular sized crock pot in with them to each class.  Class Dates: July 21st, July 28th, August 4th, and August 11th from 1:00pm-3:00pm.

Summer Enrichment Mini Camps (Ages 8-12)

Great summers start at the Y!  Each week during the summer, we will be offering enrichment mini camps on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30pm-3:30pm.  Camps include a wide variety of topics ranging from baking, to photography, to gardening, to science, to Esports, and more!  Registration is based on the week, so you can choose what works best for your children and family.

**Mini camps may involve off-site explorations! For specific camps, we will use the Y van for transportation and return back to the Y at the end time of camp.  Parents will be informed in advance of any off-site explorations planned for the week!

  • Photography & Drawing: Capture the world through your lens and sketchbook! This camp blends photography & drawing techniques to help young artists express their creativity.
  • Gardening & Cooking: From garden to table! Kids will harvest fresh ingredients from the YMCA community garden and turn them into delicious, healthy meals while learning about gardening and nutrition.
  • STEM: Experiment, build, and explore! This hands-on camp dives into science, technology, engineering, and math through exciting challenges and projects.
  • Baking: Mix, bake, and decorate! Young chefs will learn baking fundamentals while creating tasty treats to share and enjoy.
  • Outdoor Adventure: Discover nature through exploration and challenges! Campers will hike, climb, and navigate the outdoors while building teamwork and confidence.
  • Art: Unleash creativity through painting, sculpting, and more! This camp introduces a variety of art techniques to inspire young artists.
  • Esports & Coding: Level up your gaming skills and dive into coding! Kids will explore game strategy, teamwork, and the basics of programming in a fun and interactive setting.
  • Stitch & Style: Design, stitch, and create! From hand-sewing to fashion design, this camp lets kids explore textiles and express their unique style.
  • Builders & Creators: Imagine, design, and construct! Kids will use a mix of materials to build exciting projects while developing problem-solving and engineering skills.

Summer Try It Workshops (Ages 6-12)

Looking for something to do after summer school or during the long days of summer?  Learn something new during our Try It Workshops!  Enjoy creating projects, trying a new activity, or learning a new skill!  For ages 6-12.

  • Monday, June 16th- Log Rolling: Step onto the log and test your balance in this fun, hands-on workshop!  Participants will learn footwork, strategy, and coordination while making a splash!  Challenge yourself, build confidence, and enjoy the thrill of log rolling!
  • Friday, June 20th- 3D Printing: Dive into the world of 3D printing in this engaging, hands-on workshop!  Young creators will unleash their imagination as they learn the fundamentals of 3D design.  Participants will explore how 3D printers work, experiment with digital modeling, and watch the designs take shape!  Get ready to create, innovate, and take home a 3D printed project!

In this creative and interactive workshop, young participants will explore the beauty of seasonal flowers while learning the art of bouquet design. Guided by experienced instructors, kids will discover how to select, arrange, and care for fresh flowers to create their own stunning bouquets.  Please note- participants will meet at White Stag Farm for the workshop!

Y Makers: 3D Lab Time (Ages 8-14)

Reserve your spot for Y Makers: 3D Lab Time and bring your project to life! This time is dedicated to loading up your design and getting it started on our 3D printers. Whether you’re ready to print your artwork, model, or creation, this is your chance to kick off the printing process with the help of YMCA staff. Simply reserve your time, bring your digital design, and we’ll assist you in setting it up for a successful print. It’s all about making your ideas come to life, one layer at a time!

Perfect for young creators ready to turn their digital designs into real-world objects. Y Makers: 3D Lab Time makes it easy to reserve time, load your project, and let the printing begin!

3D Lab Time Requirements:

  • The 3D Printer is available by registering for lab time only.
  • Members MUST COMPLETE a YMCA 3D Printing Workshop prior to registering for Y Makers. Available workshops can be found HERE.
  • All files must be reviewed and approved by a YMCA staff member before printing.
  • Files must be sliced using Bambu Studio.
  • Maximum print time: 5 hours.  $5 fee per print.  
  • PLA filament only; no PLA carbon fiber.
  • No outside filament unless approved by YMCA staff.
  • Users will receive an email when their project is ready.
  • Completed prints must be picked up within 7 days of completion.
    • If your print is not picked up within 7 days of receiving the completion email, your project will be disposed of.

Participant/Parent/Guardian Agreement:

Printing Guidelines:

  • A $5.00 print fee is required per print, regardless of size or print time. 
    • Print fees are non-refundable.  The Glacial Community YMCA will not offer refunds or credits.  If you cancel or miss your reservation time, the $5.00 print fee will still be assessed. 

Safety, Conduct & Other Policies

  • The 3D printer area is monitored by video surveillance for safety.
  • Misuse, tampering, or damage to the printer will result in suspension of privileges and may incur cleaning or repair fees.
  • No printing of weapons, weapon components, or items that violate YMCA policies.
  • Inappropriate, unsafe, or offensive content is not permitted.
  • The printer must be left in the same condition it was found.
  • Failure to follow these guidelines and policies may result in suspension of 3D printer use privileges and be held responsible for cleaning or repair fees.
