Preschool Level is the first stage of independent swim lessons.  Independent swim lessons do not have the parents in the water with their child.  Stage one is for children ages 3-5.  In stage 1, the student will learn how to glide in the water, blow bubbles, and float.  They will also learn safe pool practices like exiting the pool safely and without assistance.  This level focuses on building confidence in the water. 

 In order to register for this class, you child must be able to:

• Blow bubbles from their nose and mouth wile submerged (assisted)
• Exit the water (assisted)
• Enter the water (assisted)
• Back float (assisted)
• Roll over (assisted)
• Front float while blowing bubbles (assisted)
• Monkey crawl on the edge of the pool for 5 feet (assisted)

In order to pass this class and move on to Stage 2, students must be able to:

• Bob independently
• Front glide 5 feet to the wall (assisted)
• Exit the water independently
• Jump in, push off the ground, turn around, and grab the wall (assisted)
• Back float for 10 seconds with assistance, but recover independently
• Roll over (assisted)
• Front float for 10 seconds with assistance, but recover independently
• Back glide 5 feet from the wall (assisted)
• Swim, float, swim 10 feet (assisted)

Preschool Level 2 focuses on improving the skills developed in Stage 1 and is intended for swimmers ages 3-5 years old.  In Stage 2, the swimmer will improve their front and back glides, front and back floats, and will learn to roll over in the water unassisted.  The students will also learn more general water safety including self-rescue techniques.   

In order to register for this class, you child must be able to:

• Bob independently
• Front glide 5 feet to the wall (assisted)
• Exit the water independently
• Jump in, push off the ground, turn around, and grab the wall (assisted)
• Back float for 10 seconds with assistance, but recover independently
• Roll over (assisted)
• Front float for 10 seconds with assistance, but recover independently
• Back glide 5 feet from the wall (assisted)
• Swim, float, swim 10 feet (assisted)

In order to pass this class and move on to Stage 3, students must be able to:

• Completely submerge and look at an object under the water
• Front glide 5 feet
• Exit the water independently
• Jump in, push off the bottom, turn around, and grab the wall
• Back float for 10 seconds
• Roll over
• Front float for 10 seconds
• Back glide 5 feet
• Tread water for 10 seconds and exit the pool
• Swim, float, swim 5 yards

Preschool Level 3 focuses on taking the skills learned in Stages 1 and 2 and puts them together in order to teach the swimmer how to swim efficiently.  This stage is intended for swimmers 3 to 5 years old.  The students will learn arm leg coordination and how to propel themselves effectively in the water.  They will also begin to learn treading water.    

In order to register for this class, you child must be able to:

• Completely submerge and look at an object under the water
• Front glide 5 feet
• Exit the water independently
• Jump in, push off the bottom, turn around, and grab the wall
• Back float for 10 seconds
• Roll over
• Front float for 10 seconds
• Back glide 5 feet
• Tread water for 10 seconds and exit the pool
• Swim, float, swim 5 yards

In order to pass this class and move on to Learn to Swim Lessons, students must be at least 6 years old and be able to:

• Submerge and retrieve on object in chest deep water
• Swim on front 10 yards
• Exit water independently
• Jump in, swim, turn around, swim back, and grab the wall
• Swim on back for 10 yards
• Roll over
• Tread water for 30 seconds and exit the pool
• Swim, float, swim 15 yards
