Learn to Swim Level 1 is designed to cultivate a sense of comfort and familiarity in the water for school-age children, aged 6 to 12. This stage emphasizes essential activities that gradually introduce young swimmers to the aquatic environment. Participants will engage in playful exercises that encourage getting their faces wet, blowing bubbles, and floating or gliding with the support of an instructor.

In addition to these foundational skills, children will learn the important practice of safely exiting the pool, ensuring they understand how to navigate their surroundings responsibly. This initial stage is critical in helping to overcome any fear of the water, allowing children to explore various body positions and movements with confidence. By fostering a playful yet structured environment, Water Acclimation sets the groundwork for future swimming lessons, empowering children to eventually swim independently.

In order to move to Learn to Swim Level 2, we recommend that your child be able to successfully demonstrate all of the following skills.

  • Submerge independently
  • Front glide, assisted, 5 ft
  • Water exits independently
  • Jump, push, turn, grab, assisted
  • Back Float, assisted, 10 secs
  • Roll, assisted
  • Front float, assisted, 10 sec

Learn to Swim Level 3 is dedicated to school-aged children ages 6-12. At this level, we continue to nurture independence in children as they develop their swimming abilities. In this stage, young swimmers are introduced to more advanced techniques, including coordinated strokes that promote efficiency and speed, as well as rotary breathing to improve their ability to stay submerged longer without the need for frequent gasps of air. Treading water becomes a crucial skill, teaching children how to remain buoyant and confident in deeper water.

The key objectives for this stage are to empower children to swim 15 yards in both front and back strokes with proficiency. They will also practice rolling over, a vital maneuver that enhances their safety in the water. Additionally, they will learn to tread water for a full minute, mastering the art of staying afloat while maintaining their energy. Finally, the importance of exiting the water safely is emphasized, ensuring that children not only gain confidence in their swimming capabilities but also understand how to navigate water environments responsibly. These skills collectively prepare children to swim longer distances with assurance and skill, setting the foundation for their future aquatic adventures.

To progress to Learn to Swim Level 4/5, we recommend that your child can successfully demonstrate all the following skills.

  • Fully submerge
  • Front glide, independent, 10 ft
  • Exit water independently
  • Jump, swim, turn, swim, glide, independently, 10 ft
  • Swim on back, independently, 15 yd
  • Tread water, 1 min
  • Swim, float, swim, 25 yd

Learn to Swim Level 4/5 is a combined level intended for school-aged children ages 7-12. This level expands on basic water skills, providing swimmers with essential techniques for mastering the Front Crawl (Freestyle) and Backstroke. In this stage, swimmers will also learn the fundamental kicking techniques for Breaststroke and Butterfly, along with the important skill of treading water. This comprehensive approach is designed to enhance endurance and boost confidence for longer swims—typically around 15-25 yards for level 4 and 25-50 yards for level 5.

Emphasizing the integration of smooth arm movements with rotary breathing for freestyle, this stage encourages the development of synchronized kicks, ultimately making swimmers stronger and more adaptable in the water. These foundational techniques not only prepare swimmers for advanced strokes but also foster a sense of achievement and ease in their swimming journey.

To progress to our Swim League Program, we recommend that your child be able to successfully demonstrate all the following skills.

  • Endurance, 25-50 yd
  • Front crawl, with rotary breathing, 15-25 yd
  • Back Crawl, 15-25 yd
  • Tread water, 1-2 min
  • Breaststroke, 15-25 yd
  • Butterfly 15 yd
