AOA Group Exercise Class Descriptions


AOA STRENGTH AND STABILITY:

This class targets the older adult and addresses mobility, strength and balance to improve posture, facilitate the activities of daily living and reduce the risk of falling.


SIT TO BE FIT:

Improve fitness while sitting and using your chair for support. Includes stretching, aerobic exercise and strengthening while utilizing hand weights, resistance bands and exercise balls. Beginner to moderately-high fitness levels are accommodated. Y Member FREE 


CHAIR YOGA:

A new class to practice yoga while sitting and using your chair for support. Improve muscle tone and balance, all while learning better breathing techniques and reducing stress. This class is ideal for everyone including those with health restrictions, decreased range of motion or physical challenges. 


AOA CARDIO FITNESS:

A low intensity cardio workout followed by strength and flexibility that includes floor exercises. Participants should be able to get up and down from the floor.    


ZUMBA GOLD:

Zumba Gold uses the same dance moves as the original Zumba class with less intense dance routines designed for beginners and older adults. The longer warm up and cool down allows participants to improve balance, flexibility and cardiovascular strength. Perfect for anyone just beginning a fitness program.


PARKINSON’S EXERCISE:

For individuals with Parkinson’s disease designed and led by Aurora physical therapists and Y wellness coaches. Working on balance, flexibility and muscular strength as well as vocal therapy.  Participants must obtain medical clearance and be evaluated by class instructors prior to enrollment.

 


 

SOCIAL OPPORTUNITIES AT THE Y

AOA Bingo
Join our AOA Bingo on Fridays from 1-2:30pm in the Senior Center with coffee and prizes! See flyer for dates.

AOA Bridge
Join us as we bring Bridge back to the Y! Come and go as you please. We will have 4 bridge tables set up and hot coffee will be served. See flyer for dates

AOA Cribbage
Interested in playing cribbage. Contact Cathi Dorn at 262-468-0469 or email at cdorn@glcymca.org or stop by Member Services. We will find out how much interest there is and hopefully set up a meeting time in the future!

AOA Container Gardening
This class will begin at the YMCA for an hour of learning. We will then drive to Rhodee’s where you will shop for your perfect plants at discounted rates for participating in this class! Instructor will assist you in creating your work of art. You may bring your own container or purchase one from Rhodee’s. Container must be a size that can be carried.
