A CHRISTMAS TO REMEMBER
Family Advent from the YMCA Glacial Community Y
Advent is a season of anticipation. Specifically the anticipation of the coming of Jesus Christ into the world. That’s why we celebrate Christmas, the true meaning of the holiday. It is always celebrated on the final four Sundays of the year leading up to Christmas. This year, Advent begins on November 29 and concludes on December 24, with each week focusing on a specific theme for the week: Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love.
At the Y, we want to help your family remember these special weeks by providing you an Advent devotion each week that will include Scripture readings and a prayer that you can share as a family. If you choose, you can create a special place in your home where you can gather each week to share in this time. You might provide a candle for each week if you wish. Maybe you will share these focuses around your family dinner table and start your evening meal with the devotion and prayer. However you choose, you can use your imagination and create a special remembrance for your family.
Then, each day of the month, a way to reach out to those around you has been provided in our Advent Calendar. Use these hints, or create your own from these ideas. Make this month your own, but do reach out and make a difference in your family, your neighborhood, and our community by “paying it forward.” By doing so, this will be a Christmas to remember!
O come, O come, Emmanuel, And ransom captive Israel, That mourns in lonely exile here Until the Son of God appears. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.
